Learn Islam upon the path of the Salaf

Home / Islamic Studies

Online Islamic studies — the sciences as they have always been studied.

A text, a teacher, and your questions answered as they arise. Not a video you watch alone, and not a summary of a summary — the books themselves, read with someone who can explain what is behind them.

This course suits you if

  • You have read widely online and want structure instead
  • You want the evidence behind what you practise
  • You are ready to work through a text properly
  • You want to teach or give khuṭbahs one day
The path

Where to start, and what comes after

These are studied in order for a reason: each text assumes the one before it. You can join at any point the trial lesson shows you are ready for.

Foundations

What every Muslim is obliged to know: the three fundamental principles, the pillars, the conditions of the shahādah. Short texts, studied slowly, because everything later rests on them.

You can state and explain the foundations with their evidences.

ʿAqīdah

Belief studied from the primary texts rather than from argument online — the names and attributes, what nullifies Islam, the sources of the creed and how they are read.

You can tell a claim about ʿaqīdah from its evidence, and judge one.

Fiqh of worship

Purification, prayer, zakāh, fasting and ḥajj, taught with the ḥadīth the rulings come from — so you learn the ruling and where it came from at the same time.

You can perform and explain the acts of worship, and know the evidence for each.

Ḥadīth sciences

Beginning with the forty of al-Nawawī, then a collection of rulings. Alongside the texts: how a ḥadīth is graded and why it matters.

You can read a ḥadīth with its chain and understand what the grading means.

Uṣūl al-fiqh

The discipline that governs how rulings are derived — the general and the specific, the absolute and the qualified, abrogation, and how scholars actually differ.

You can follow a scholarly disagreement and see what it turns on.

Sīrah and the history that carries it

The life of the Prophet ṣallā Allāhu ʿalayhi wa sallam read as a source of law and character, not as a story.

You know the sīrah in order, with what each stage established.

What you will study from

The texts themselves

Al-Uṣūl al-Thalāthah

الأصول الثلاثة

The short foundational text on the three principles every Muslim is asked about. Where nearly every student begins.

Kitāb al-Tawḥīd

كتاب التوحيد

Tawḥīd established chapter by chapter from the Qur’an and the Sunnah, with the evidence beside every point.

Al-Arbaʿūn al-Nawawiyyah

الأربعون النووية

Forty ḥadīth that between them carry the essentials of the religion. Memorised as well as studied.

ʿUmdat al-Aḥkām

عمدة الأحكام

The ḥadīth of rulings agreed upon by al-Bukhārī and Muslim — the standard first book of fiqh with evidence.

Al-Waraqāt

الورقات

The short introduction to uṣūl al-fiqh, and the usual first step into the science.

Bulūgh al-Marām

بلوغ المرام

The fuller collection of ḥadīth of rulings, for students continuing in fiqh.

This reading list is a draft — confirm it matches what your teachers actually teach before publishing.

Inside a lesson

Read the text, then understand it

The method is old and it works: read, explain, question, apply. Nothing is skipped because it is difficult.

You read the passage

You read the lines aloud in Arabic or in translation, depending on your level.

The teacher explains

The passage is explained in its own terms, with the evidences and where the difficulty lies.

You ask

This is the part no recording gives you. Ask until it is actually clear.

Applied and set

A question to think through and the next passage to prepare, written down.

Pricing

$10 an hour, or $8 above ten hours a month

The same rate for Islamic studies as for everything else. No enrolment fee, no packages to buy up front — you pay for the hours you book.

Questions

Before you book

Anything not answered here — send a WhatsApp message. A person replies, usually within a few hours.

Yes. The texts are taught in English with the Arabic read alongside, and many students study Arabic in parallel.

A short foundational text takes a few months at one lesson a week. ʿUmdat al-Aḥkām or a full uṣūl text takes considerably longer. Your teacher will tell you the honest length before you start.

[Answer this in your own words — it is the question serious students will ask first, and a straight answer builds more trust than a diplomatic one.]

Yes. Many students come with one specific need and study only that. The path above is a recommendation, not a requirement.

It is, and some of our students are working towards exactly that. It needs Arabic alongside the sciences, and it needs years.
